Print it or Grow it?

Growing out the city

The world around us is evolving at an ever increasing pace. The next 5 years will see technology changes that are greater than the sum happenings of the last 65. We’re witnessing new currencies that no one controls  while the need for control has come so far that you can now print your own food. Sound a bit bonkers? The world’s largest space agency doesn’t think so.

Kids are growing up in the blink of an eye and what they pick up along the way has huge implications on the regard they hold for the planet that supports them. Idea sharing has never been so easy, friends learn from each other and explore what connects them.

Is it ok that a child believes that tomatoes are ‘born in the supermarket’ ?

Should we be concerned..?.. and if so what can we do?

The glare of technology is now so blinding that it’s possible our youngsters will become more interested in the workings of a machine that can print a bullet, or a lasagne than what food is actually made of.  Neurons that fire together wire together  so it’s ever more important that we take an interest on where those young minds are focused and present them with learning opportunities and programmes that help teach and demonstrate what true sustainability actually is.

There’s no doubt that 3D printing is one of the major technological advancements of recent times.. imagine being able to print a liver, a kidney, a new arm. Amazing stuff. But while all the whizz bang fancy stuff is going on out there it’s ever more vital that we remember our roots. Getting behind programmes like this one in Harlem and getting new ones off the ground will mean we keep ourselves and our children that little bit more grounded, feeling the earth that supports us, where we all came from and where, eventually, new kidney or not, we’ll all return to.
