The Good Carpenter… Community Engagement
Building authentic relationships through strong community engagement is exactly what we like to expect of The Good Carpenter so this month we’re putting the spotlight on Jason Jones from Mitres Well in Ballarat.
Jason attended the Doing Good is Good For Business workshop in Augustlast year and was inspired to apply his carpentry and building skills to support a cause close to his heart.
Since his niece, Tianna, was born with Down Syndrome Jason has been committed to helping her as much and as often as possible within his means.
Aware that a local Down Syndrome community day was being organised, rather than simply focusing on Tianna’s disability in isolation of the local community, he decided to do something to support the cause while at the same time raising his profile as a socially responsible tradie.
Jason set about building this totally cool, kids’ cubby house which he donated to the Ballarat Down Syndrome Community event where was raffled as part of Down Syndrome Awareness Day celebrations that took place across Australia from the 14th till 21st March. They raised thousands of dollars on the day and a young girl, also affected by Downs was the lucky winner.
Being a loyal customer of the local Dahlsens store Jason made sure it was true community effort by getting in touch with store manager Phil who agreed to help by providing some of the cladding free of charge.
Who is the Good Carpenter? The Good Carpenter, developed in partnership with Carpentry Australia, is a series of stories about all the Good things going on in the world of carpentry and building.
